Nara is a historic land with many World Heritage sites and national treasure buildings❣❣

The ancient city of Nara has many historic temples and shrines

Among these, there are several places known as “power spots”✨

Today we will be introducing the third part of our series on power spots in Nara (⋈◍>◡<◍)✧♡

[Shigisan Chogosonshi Ji Temple (Heguri Town, Ikoma District)]

Founded by Prince Shotoku in 587

When Prince Shotoku visited this mountain to pray for victory during his campaign against Mononobe no Moriya,

King Bishamonten appeared in the sky and bestowed upon him a treasure to ensure victory, after which he won brilliantly✨

He carved a statue of King Bishamonten himself, built a temple, and named it “Shigisan” as a “mountain to be trusted and revered”❣❣

Since King Bishamonten appeared in the year of the tiger, on the day of the tiger, and at the hour of the tiger, the tiger is worshipped🐯

Furthermore, in 910, during the reign of Emperor Daigo, the emperor prayed to Bishamonten for recovery from illness and immediately recovered 🎵

It came to be called “Chogosonshiji Temple” as a place of prayer for the peace of the Imperial Court, the protection of the land, and the longevity of descendants

Since then, it has been called Shigisan Chogosonshiji Temple ❣❣

Immediately after entering the grounds, there is a huge 6m long papier-mache tiger called “The World’s Greatest Fukutora” 🐅

As you walk through the grounds, you will find tigers everywhere, and you can see a variety of tigers.

The lucky “Paper Tiger” is given as a talisman.

The way it shakes its head back and forth means “a good head turns = no problems, brings wishes”

The brave gestures of the tiger are also said to ward off evil❣❣

Also, since ancient times, it has been called “Mitsutora no Fuku” (fun of three tigers), and it is said that having three tigers together is very auspicious and increases your benefits✨

The shrine is especially famous for its financial luck and business prosperity!!

It also has a wide range of benefits, including protection from misfortune, protection from evil, health and longevity, safety in the home, road safety, and matchmaking🎵

[Tenkawa Shrine (Tenkawa Daibentensha Shrine) (Tenkawa Village)]

Its origins date back to the Asuka period.

It was enshrined prior to Zao Gongen when En no Gyoja founded Omine, and is said to have begun as the guardian deity of Mt. Misen, the highest peak❣❣

One of the top five Benzaiten shrines in Japan, alongside Chikubushima and Itsukushima✨

The deity worshipped here is “Ichikishimahime no Mikoto”, one of the three Munakata goddesses,

whose name during the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism was “Benzaiten”❣❣

Tenkawa Shrine, located in a hidden area of Nara, is a power spot that is considered to be in an exceptional location from the perspective of feng shui✨

Tenkawa Shrine is located in the middle of a triangle connecting the three famous sacred mountains of Japan, “Koyasan,” “Yoshinoyama,” and “Kumano”❣❣

It is also said that Tenkawa Shrine is a shrine where you must be called by the gods⛩

So, you may be granted some kind of blessing when you visit✨

Ichikishimahime is the goddess of entertainment and wealth.

Many famous entertainers and musicians visit the shrine hoping to receive benefits from the arts and entertainment🎵

Benefits of Tenkawa Shrine

・Improved financial fortunes
・Improvement in arts (music) and learning
・Safety at sea
・Matchmaking

[Yakushiji Temple (Nara City)]

In 680 during the Hakuho period, Emperor Tenmu prayed for the recovery of his empress (later Empress Jito) from illness.

Completed in Asuka during the reign of Empress Jito in 697✨

Relocated to its current location when the capital was moved to Heijo Castle in Nara❣❣

In 1998, it was registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the “Cultural Assets of Ancient Nara”❣❣

The Yakushi Triad is enshrined here, which is said to bring good luck in “recovering from illness” and “prayer for health”❣❣

The Yakushi Nyorai in the main hall is also known as the Io Nyorai

A Buddha who provides medicine to save people’s lives and relieves their emotional dissatisfaction✨

For this reason, it is popular as a power spot for physical health and other purposes. 🎵

The statues of the Twelve Heavenly Generals are also famous, and you can pray while comparing the different expressions of each one❣❣

That’s all for today’s power spot introduction✨

There are still many more power spots in Nara❣❣

We’ll introduce the spots we couldn’t introduce this time next time (⋈◍>◡<◍). ✧♡
