What is “Nara Tokae”? 🕯️✨

Nara Tokae is one of the most popular summer events in Nara, attracting visitors from all over Japan and around the world 🌏💖

 

Held annually from August 5 to August 14, thousands of candles illuminate Nara Park, creating a breathtaking and romantic atmosphere among Nara’s historic temples and beautiful natural scenery 🦌🌙✨

 

The word “Tokae” refers to the flower-shaped wax that forms on a candle wick, traditionally believed to bring good fortune 🍀🕯️

Each candle is lit with wishes for happiness and peace for all visitors 💕✨

Special Illuminations During Nara Tokae 🌟

 

At Todai-ji, special nighttime viewing is available on August 13 and 14, with illuminated temple buildings and a rare opportunity to view the Great Buddha from outside the hall 🙏🌙

 

Kasuga Taisha’s lantern events are held only on August 14 during Nara Tokae, creating a magical atmosphere that perfectly complements the candle-lit pathways of the festival 🏮✨

Return by 9:00 PM:
¥1,100 additional fee

We also offer:

Next-Day Return Option 🎵

Return between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM the following day:
¥2,200 additional fee

※Please note that customers using the next-day return option will be required to provide a copy of a valid photo ID.
