Summer Festivals & Fireworks in Nara 2026

★Taira no Koremori Festival (Nosegawa Village)

Date: July 25, 2026 (Tentative)

Held in the mountain village of Nosegawa,

this traditional festival commemorates Taira no Koremori.

Around 3,000 fireworks are scheduled to light up the night sky from .🎆

 

★Onpara Festival Fireworks (Sakurai City)

Date: July 31, 2026 (Tentative)

One of Nara’s most popular summer events,

the Onpara Festival is held at Omiwa Shrine.

The fireworks display marks the grand finale of the traditional Shinto ceremony and is famous for its spectacular ending.

 

★Yoshinogawa Fireworks Festival (Gojo City)

Date: August 15, 2026 (Tentative)

One of the largest fireworks festivals in Nara Prefecture.

Approximately 4,000 fireworks, combined with music and laser effects,

illuminate the Yoshino River.

This event is held in the hometown of the legendary Japanese fireworks craftsman Kagiya Yahei.

 

★Nara Daimonji Bonfire (Nara City)

Date: August 15, 2026 (Tentative)

Although not a fireworks festival, this traditional memorial event is one of Nara’s most iconic summer attractions.

A giant “Dai” character is illuminated on Mt. Takamado,

★Tenjin Festival Fireworks (Osaka)

Date: July 25, 2026 (Tentative)

The grand finale of the famous Tenjin Matsuri,

one of Japan’s Three Great Festivals.

Around 3,000 fireworks and a fleet of illuminated boats create one of Kansai’s most spectacular summer scenes.

 

★Lake Biwa Fireworks Festival (Shiga)

Date: August 6, 2026 (Tentative)

One of the most famous fireworks festivals in western Japan.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026,

approximately 12,000 fireworks will illuminate both the night sky and the surface of Lake Biwa.

 

★Kumano Jofuku Mantosai & Shingu Fireworks Festival (Wakayama)

Date: August 13, 2026 (Tentative)

A signature summer event in the Kumano region.

Approximately 6,000 fireworks are launched over the mouth of the Kumano River,

Extended Hours During Nara Tokae Lantern Festival🦌✨

From August 5 to August 14,

the famous Nara Tokae Lantern Festival transforms Nara Park into a magical landscape illuminated by thousands of candles.

 

To help visitors enjoy the event,

Waplus Nara – Nara Park Bus Terminal Store will extend business hours until 9:30 PM during the festival period.
