“I want to go out in a yukata (kimono), but where should I go?”
For those of you who are worried about this, we will introduce some recommended places in Nara where you can enjoy wearing a yukata (kimono)❣❣
Introducing recommended spots in Naramachi where you can enjoy the historic streets of Nara🎶

“Naramachi” is an area that developed from the Edo to Meiji periods as the grounds of “Gangoji Temple”,
a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is part of the cultural assets of the ancient city of Nara🎵
This area still retains the townhouses and temples of that time, creating a charming streetscape
Naramachi also has many cafes and general stores that have been renovated from old houses❣❣
Take a stroll around Naramachi and find your favorites (⋈◍>◡<◍). ✧♡

[Goryo Shrine]
A shrine founded by imperial decree of Emperor Kanmu in the early Heian period (800)⛩
On the left hand side after passing through the south gate is Shusse Inari Shrine, a sub-shrine known for its blessings in finding love🎵
It is said that the famous Toyotomi Hideyoshi devoutly worshipped this shrine❣❣
In addition, red strings are tied at the feet of the lion dogs on both sides of the South Gate by people who come to pray for the lion dogs to stop running away, to find love, to prosper in business, etc❣❣
Shinto wedding ceremonies are also held in the worship hall(⋈◍>◡<◍). ✧♡
One of the great attractions of this shrine is that you can get a different goshuin stamp every month✨
You can enjoy beautiful designs related to the season and events, making it an even more special experience❣❣

【Gango-ji Temple】
Gango-ji Temple traces its origins back to the late 6th century when it was initially founded by Soga no Umako as Asuka-dera in Asuka Village.
When the capital moved to Nara, the temple was reconstructed at its current location and renamed Gango-ji.
Today, only the remains of the Gokuraku-dō (Pure Land Hall) and the Zen room, part of the monk’s quarters, are still preserved on the temple grounds.
While the building has been renovated, several features from the Tempyo period remain, showcasing its ancient historical value.
Additionally, many important cultural assets, including Buddhist statues, are enshrined at Gango-ji, earning it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.” (⋈◍>◡<◍).✧♡
One of the key highlights at Gango-ji is a statue of the young Prince Shotoku, offering a rare glimpse into his childhood. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in Japanese history❣❣
Alongside other iconic temples like Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji, Gango-ji is one of the top places to visit in Nara✨

【Naramachi Koshi-no-Ie】
This facility was built based on the traditional townhouses scattered throughout Naramachi from the late Edo period to the Meiji period.
This unique structure offers visitors the opportunity to experience life in the past, as if they had traveled back in time❣❣
One of the most distinctive features of these townhouses is their narrow width and long depth, which are often likened to the sleeping area of an eel.
Designed to make the most of the space, the box-shaped staircase cleverly incorporates storage space, and not a single square inch is wasted🎵
The latticework also shields the interior from outside views, and the courtyard and earthen floor play an important role in ventilation and lighting.
These practical elements not only serve a functional role, but also offer a glimpse into the ingenuity of ancient Nara architecture✨
By visiting Naramachi Koshi-no-Ie, you can experience traditional Japanese life, learn about its functionality, and enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of a bygone era (⋈◍>◡<◍)*✧♡
Note: Closed on Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a public holiday), the weekday following a public holiday, and from December 26th to January 5th. (As of March 1, 2025)
