We have received some questions from guests and we love that!

Today also we got it. They asked us.

“Do Japanese people drink matcha every day?”

“Does everyone in Japan practice tea ceremony?”

It is a good question.

The answer is No.

In fact, for many Japanese people, matcha and tea ceremony are also considered something special.

The tea that Japanese people drink every day is usually not matcha.

Common everyday drinks include:

• Sencha – the most common Japanese green tea
• Hojicha – roasted green tea with a pleasant aroma
• Barley tea (Mugicha) – caffeine-free and very popular in summer
• Genmaicha – green tea mixed with roasted brown rice
• Bancha – an everyday green tea enjoyed at home
• Japanese black tea (Wakoucha) – black tea made from Japanese tea leaves
• Black tea – such as Earl Grey, Darjeeling, and Assam, which are also popular in Japan

Many Japanese people also drink coffee every day, so both tea and coffee are common parts of daily life.

 

❤Why Is Matcha More Expensive?

Matcha usually costs much more than regular green tea.

This is because it requires much more work.

The tea plants are shaded before harvest, only carefully selected young leaves are used, the stems and veins are removed, and the leaves are slowly ground with a traditional stone mill.

Because of this careful process, matcha is considered a premium tea, and most Japanese people do not drink it every day.

 

❤Do Most Japanese People Practice Tea Ceremony?

Not really.

Many Japanese people have experienced tea ceremony at least once, perhaps at school or during a cultural event.

However, only a small percentage continue practicing it regularly.

Tea ceremony is regarded as one of Japan’s traditional arts and cultural treasures.
