Today also we got it. They asked us “What is the Chabana in

September? ” It is a good question.

 

Although the days can still be warm, the first signs of

autumn begin to appear. The mornings and evenings become a little cooler, and seasonal flowers and

grasses start to show the beauty of the coming autumn. We will show you some Chabana in September.

 

・Hagi (Bush Clover)

Hagi is one of the most representative flowers of autumn in Japan.

It is also one of the famous Seven Flowers of Autumn, known as “Aki no Nanakusa.”

Its small flowers and delicate branches have a gentle, natural appearance. Rather than being bold and

dramatic, hagi expresses the quiet beauty of the Japanese countryside.

For this reason, it is especially suitable for a traditional tea room.

・Japanese Pampas Grass – Susuki

Susuki or Japanese pampas grass, is another well-known symbol of autumn in Japan.

Its soft, silver-colored plumes sway gently in the wind and create a peaceful autumn atmosphere.

When used as chabana, susuki can instantly remind guests of an autumn field in the Japanese

countryside.　It is also closely associated with Tsukimi, the traditional Japanese custom of appreciating the full moon in autumn.

・Balloon Flower – Kikyo

Kikyo (Balloon Flower) is known for its beautiful blue-purple flowers.

Its elegant shape and calm color make it a wonderful flower for a tea room.

Kikyo is also one of the Seven Flowers of Autumn, making it an especially meaningful flower during

the early autumn season.

 

One of the most important ideas in Japanese tea culture is seasonality.

A tea ceremony is not only about drinking matcha.

It is also about appreciating the moment and sharing a special experience with the guests.

The flowers in the tea room may change according to the season.
