✨ Recommended New Year Hatsumode Spots around Nara Park ✨

The area around Nara Park is home to many popular spots for hatsumode,

the traditional first shrine visit of the year 🎍⛩

Visiting these temples and shrines in a kimono not only makes for beautiful photos but is also the perfect way to start the year 🌸

Here are some of our recommended shrines and temples around Nara Park 👇

🌅Kasuga Taisha – Nara’s Iconic New Year Shrine

Kasuga Taisha is one of the most popular spots for hatsumode (New Year shrine visits) in Nara ⛩

The vibrant vermilion corridors perfectly complement a kimono,

making it ideal for taking beautiful and festive photos 👘📷

Kasuga Taisha is said to accept all kinds of wishes,

and is known as a shrine with a wide variety of blessings (⋈◍>◡<◍).✧♡

Some of the main benefits and blessings include:

・Protection from misfortune & good health

・Love, matchmaking & harmonious marriage

・Good luck & prosperity

・Traffic safety

・Improvement in arts, skills, or career

・Child growth & safe childbirth

No matter your age or wish, Kasuga Taisha offers blessings for everyone❣❣

🌅Todaiji Temple – Famous for the Great Buddha

Todaiji Temple, known for its Great Buddha Hall,

is another must-visit spot for hatsumode (New Year shrine visits) in Nara ✨

Many visitors come to pay their respects to the Great Buddha at the start of the year,

and taking photos in a kimono in front of this majestic architecture is truly a symbol of a memorable Nara trip 🦌

In addition, the Great Buddha Hall has a fun and famous feature called the “Pillar Hole Challenge” ❣

This hole is approximately 30cm × 37cm, said to be the same size as the Great Buddha’s nostril (´꒳`)❣

It is believed that passing through this hole brings blessings for good health and the fulfillment of your wishes 🌸

🌅 Kofukuji Temple – Famous for the Five-Story Pagoda and Ichigon Kannon

The area around Kofukuji Temple, including the Five-Story Pagoda and Saruzawa Pond, is a very popular photo spot.

Many visitors enjoy the serene atmosphere of a morning visit, which is said to refresh the mind and spirit 🌸

※ Please note: The Five-Story Pagoda is currently under renovation and cannot be viewed.
However, the surrounding area is still open for a pleasant stroll, so you can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the temple grounds.

At Kofukuji, a particularly popular statue is the “Ichigon Kannon” (One-Word Kannon),

which is believed to grant “one wish fulfillment” 🌸

The Ichigon Kannon is said to answer a single wish offered sincerely from the heart, rather than multiple requests ❣❣

Whether it’s love, family health, career goals, or academic success,

this sacred statue is very popular among visitors who want to make one meaningful wish for the new year 🎶

These three sites are registered as part of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site ❣❣
