{"id":7608,"date":"2025-10-15T14:52:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T05:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/?post_type=en_blog&#038;p=7608"},"modified":"2025-10-15T14:50:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T05:50:29","slug":"wasanbona-traditional-japanese-sugar","status":"publish","type":"en_blog","link":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/en\/blog\/2025\/10\/15\/wasanbona-traditional-japanese-sugar\/","title":{"rendered":"Wasanbon~a traditional Japanese sugar~"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\uff5e\uff5e\ud83d\udc9b\ud83d\udc97\u2606\ud83d\udc97\ud83d\udc9bHello, this is Tea ceremony and Calligraphy shop Waplus Nara.\ud83d\udc9b\ud83d\udc97\u2606\ud83d\udc97\ud83d\udc9b\uff5e\uff5e<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Today I&#8217;d like to talk about Wasanbon, a traditional Japanese sugar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wasanbon is a high-quality sugar made using traditional methods from a type of sugarcane<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">called &#8220;bamboo sugar,&#8221; primarily found in Tokushima and Kagawa prefectures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It is characterized by its elegant sweetness, smooth texture, and subtle flavor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wasanbon is made by boiling down the juice of a native variety of sugarcane called<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;chikutoh&#8221; to produce an amber-colored mixture called &#8220;shirashitatoh.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The shirashitatoh is placed in a wooden box and pressed with an<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;oshibune&#8221; (pressing machine) to separate the molasses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The separated shirashitatoh is then kneaded by hand with a small amount of water,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">a process known as &#8220;togi&#8221; (polishing), repeated 3 to 5 times.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The &#8220;togi&#8221; process refines the particles,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">and the sugar is finally dried in the sun to complete the product.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Unlike white sugar, the manual grinding process leaves a moderate amount of<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">molasses behind, giving it a refined, mellow flavor that<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">combines the richness of brown sugar with the clean sweetness of granulated sugar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">At Tea Ceremony &amp; Calligraphy Shop Waplus Nara,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">we serve Wasanbon as one of the sweets during your tea ceremony experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sessions are held three times a day at 10:00, 13:00, and 15:00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Please come and experience the tea ceremony.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">All our staff look forward to seeing you\ud83d\udc9a\ud83d\udc97<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","en_blog_cat":[57,18],"class_list":["post-7608","en_blog","type-en_blog","status-publish","hentry","en_blog_cat-voice","en_blog_cat-staffblog","entry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/en_blog\/7608","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/en_blog"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/en_blog"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7608"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"en_blog_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/waplus-kimono.com\/nara\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/en_blog_cat?post=7608"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
