They asked us &#8220;when did the tea ceremony\u00a0 become popular among women?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That is a good question!<\/p>\n<p>Originally , the tea ceremony was for men, but women started it since Meiji Period. It was infruenced by<\/p>\n<p>the Japanese Meiji Enlightenment. And it was introduced into the girl&#8217;s school. The reason is to learn<\/p>\n<p>beatiful etiquette and kindness for people through the tea ceremony. After Edo Period,the women need<\/p>\n<p>to acquire culture. Yae Niijima who is a wife of Jyo Niijima also learned the tea ceremony, and spreaded<\/p>\n<p>it. So it was from Meiji Period through early Showa Period that the tea ceremony spread rapidly among<\/p>\n<p>women. Now, both men and women enjoy it.
