🌸 What Are Your Business Hours?
Our store is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Located just a short walk from Yasaka Shrine, our shop offers the perfect starting point for exploring Kyoto’s beautiful historic streets as soon as you’re dressed.
If you’re hoping to:
- Visit as many sightseeing spots as possible
- Take photos before the streets become busy
we highly recommend visiting in the morning.
Kyoto is generally quieter in the early hours, making places such as Yasaka Shrine, Nene-no-Michi, and Ishibei-koji especially peaceful and perfect for photography.
Morning reservations are particularly popular with guests who want to enjoy sightseeing at a relaxed pace while capturing beautiful photos.
Of course, afternoon visits are also a wonderful choice. You can enjoy visiting charming cafés, strolling through Gion in the late afternoon, and experiencing Kyoto’s unique atmosphere at a slower pace.
Simply choose the reservation time that best fits your travel schedule.

🍵 Can I Buy Matcha at Your Store?
Yes! We sell high-quality Uji matcha at our store.
It is a popular souvenir for visitors to Kyoto and a wonderful way to bring the taste of Japan home after your trip.
Our Uji matcha is known for its rich aroma and smooth, mellow flavor. Simply add hot water to enjoy an authentic cup of matcha whenever you like.
Many of our international guests ask us:
- “Is this premium matcha?”
- “Where can I buy authentic matcha in Kyoto?”
Our matcha is a favorite choice for visitors who want to take home a special Kyoto souvenir or continue enjoying the memories of their trip after returning home.
Among Kyoto’s many souvenirs, Uji matcha is especially popular as a thoughtful gift for family and friends.
If you visit us for a kimono rental, we invite you to take a look at our matcha selection as well.

🍃 Can I Join the Matcha Experience on the Same Day?
Many visitors tell us,
“Since I’m visiting Kyoto, I’d love to experience a traditional matcha ceremony as well.”
We completely understand!
Our matcha experience is available by reservation only.
Although we occasionally receive same-day inquiries asking, “Can I join today?”, we are sometimes unable to accommodate them because all experiences require advance reservations.
As staff members, it is always disappointing when we have to turn guests away, especially when we know they were looking forward to experiencing Japanese culture during their trip.
For this reason, we strongly recommend booking the matcha experience in advance together with your kimono rental.
Enjoying a bowl of authentic matcha while wearing a kimono is one of the most memorable cultural experiences Kyoto has to offer.
Relax in a traditional Japanese-style room, experience the beauty of Japanese hospitality, and create unforgettable memories during your visit.
If your travel dates are already decided, we recommend making your reservation as early as possible to secure your preferred time.

💄 Do You Offer Makeup Services?
Yes! We offer a point makeup service, and advance reservation is required.
Many guests tell us:
- “I’d like to look a little different while wearing a kimono.”
- “I want my makeup to look great in photos.”
Our point makeup service is perfect for adding the finishing touches to your traditional Japanese style.
Please note that foundation and other base makeup should be applied before you arrive at our store.
After that, our staff will enhance your look with eye makeup, blush, lipstick, and other finishing touches that complement your kimono and hairstyle.
Combining a hair styling service with point makeup creates an even more elegant and photogenic appearance.
If you’re unsure which style suits you best, don’t worry! Our staff will be happy to recommend a look that matches your kimono and your personal preferences.
One of our guests loved her hairstyle so much that she even purchased the decorative kanzashi hairpin she was wearing before leaving the store.
A beautiful hairstyle can completely transform your kimono look, making your Kyoto experience even more memorable.

👘 Can Men Rent Kimono Too?
Absolutely!
While many people think kimono are mainly for women, kimono rentals have become increasingly popular with men in recent years.
Many couples, families, and groups of friends enjoy exploring Kyoto together in traditional Japanese clothing, creating unforgettable memories and beautiful photos.
We offer a wide selection of men’s kimono in a variety of colors and styles, making it easy to find one that suits your taste.
Some men tell us,
“My girlfriend wants to wear a kimono, but I’m a little embarrassed.”
However, once they are dressed, most of them quickly relax, smile, and enjoy sightseeing and taking photos around Kyoto.
Our staff is happy to help coordinate outfits for couples and groups, so even first-time visitors can feel comfortable and confident.
Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or with family, we invite everyone to experience Kyoto in traditional Japanese attire together.

👘 Should I Choose a Yukata or a Kimono?
One of the questions we hear most often during the summer is:
“Should I wear a yukata or a kimono?”
Both are traditional Japanese garments, but each offers a different experience.
A yukata is a lightweight cotton garment traditionally worn during the summer. It is breathable, easy to move around in, and perfect for warm weather. Whether you’re visiting summer festivals, watching fireworks, or simply strolling through Kyoto, a yukata is a comfortable and stylish choice.
A kimono, on the other hand, can be enjoyed throughout the year. With its elegant fabrics, beautiful obi belt, and refined appearance, a kimono creates a more formal and sophisticated look. It pairs perfectly with Kyoto’s historic scenery, including Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka, and the charming streets of Gion, making every photo even more memorable.
Many guests tell us,
“I was planning to rent a yukata because of the summer heat, but after talking with your staff, I chose a kimono instead—and I’m so glad I did!”
There is no rule that says you must wear a yukata in summer.
If you’re looking for a more authentic Kyoto experience, celebrating a special occasion, or hoping to take elegant and memorable photos, a kimono can be a wonderful choice even during the warmer months.
At Waplus Kyoto Yasaka Shrine Store, we’ll recommend the best option based on your travel plans, the day’s weather, and the atmosphere you’re hoping to create.
If you’re not sure which style is right for you, simply ask our staff—we’ll be happy to help you find the perfect outfit.
✨ Our Recommendation
- Choose a Yukata if you’d like a light, comfortable outfit for sightseeing on hot summer days.
- Choose a Kimono if you’re celebrating a special occasion or want a more elegant and traditional Kyoto experience.
If you’re still undecided, don’t worry. We’ll help you choose the best option when you visit.

🌸 Not Sure Which Kimono to Choose?
Many first-time visitors ask us:
- “I’m not sure which kimono suits me.”
- “There are so many choices—I don’t know where to start.”
- “I want to wear something that feels special while I’m in Kyoto.”
If you feel this way, you’re certainly not alone.
Since most people don’t have many opportunities to wear a kimono, it’s completely natural to feel unsure.
At Waplus Kyoto Yasaka Shrine Store, our experienced staff will help you choose a kimono that matches your style, preferences, and personality.
Whether you’re looking for something:
- Cute and charming
- Elegant and sophisticated
- Classic and traditionally Japanese
we’ll guide you every step of the way.
We’ll also coordinate your obi belt, bag, and hair accessories to create a beautiful overall look.
Many guests tell us,
“I never would have chosen this color myself, but I absolutely loved it!”
or
“It looked even more beautiful than I imagined.”
Hearing comments like these is one of the greatest joys for our staff.
We’re here to help make your day in Kyoto as memorable and enjoyable as possible.
👘 Is It Comfortable to Walk Around Kyoto in a Kimono?
Another question we hear frequently is:
“Can I comfortably walk around Kyoto in a kimono all day?”
Many people imagine that wearing a kimono is uncomfortable or difficult, especially if it’s their first time.
In reality, as long as you enjoy sightseeing at a relaxed pace, you can comfortably spend the day exploring Kyoto in a kimono.
Our shop is located just a short walk from Yasaka Shrine, making it easy to begin your sightseeing as soon as you’re dressed.
Popular walking routes include Yasaka Shrine, Nene-no-Michi, Ishibei-koji, Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of cafés and places to take a break whenever you like.
Before you leave the store, our staff will also share helpful tips on how to walk, sit, and use stairs comfortably while wearing a kimono.
Even if it’s your very first kimono experience, we’ll make sure you feel confident and ready to enjoy a wonderful day exploring Kyoto.

🌦️ Can I Enjoy Wearing a Kimono on a Rainy Day?
One of the questions we often receive is:
“What if it rains on the day of my trip? Can I still enjoy wearing a kimono?”
The answer is yes!
Kyoto has a unique charm on rainy days. The stone-paved streets of Nene-no-Michi and Ishibei-koji glisten with rain, while the traditional machiya townhouses create a peaceful and atmospheric setting that’s quite different from a sunny day.
Rainy days also tend to be less crowded, giving you more opportunities to take beautiful photos at a relaxed pace.
Some of our guests have even told us that their rainy-day photos became some of their favorite memories from Kyoto.
Rain or shine, wearing a kimono allows you to experience the beauty and elegance of Kyoto in a truly special way.
✨ Helping You Enjoy Kyoto with Confidence
At Waplus Kyoto Yasaka Shrine Store, we believe that renting a kimono is about much more than simply choosing an outfit. Our goal is to help you create wonderful memories during your time in Kyoto.

If you’re unsure which kimono or accessories to choose, we’re always happy to help. Based on your preferences, travel plans, and the atmosphere you’d like to create, we’ll recommend a coordinated look that suits you perfectly.
Nothing makes us happier than hearing comments such as:
“The staff were so kind and helpful.”
“It was my first time wearing a kimono, but I felt completely at ease.”

These kind words inspire us to continue providing the best possible experience for every guest.
