🏮 What Is Shichi-Go-San? | Why We Celebrate at Ages 3, 5, and 7 🎂

Shichi-Go-San (7-5-3) is a traditional Japanese ceremony to celebrate children’s growth and health 🎉

It originated from ancient court rituals during the Heian period (794–1185):

👧 Age 3: “Kamioki” (leaving the hair to grow)
👦 Age 5: “Hakamagi” (wearing hakama pants for the first time)
👘 Age 7: “Obitoki” (wearing the obi sash for the first time)

In old times, when medicine was not advanced, it was a miracle for children to grow healthy 🙏

These ceremonies were a way to thank the gods and pray for long life and happiness✨

The custom spread among common people during the Edo period (1603–1868),

after the 5th Shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, celebrated his son’s health in 1681 🎊


Since then, it has become one of Japan’s most cherished family traditions 💕
