A Gentle Guide to Using the Restroom While Wearing a Kimono 👘

“I’m interested in wearing a kimono, but… what about using the restroom?” 💭

This is one of the most common questions we receive from our guests before their visit.

For many, wearing a kimono for the first time is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking ✨
You may wonder, “Will I wear it properly?” “Will it feel comfortable?”
And of course, “Will I be able to use the restroom without any trouble?” 🌿

Please rest assured 🍃
With just a few simple tips, using the restroom in a kimono is not difficult at all 👘

In fact, many of our guests have shared with us:
“It was much easier than I expected.”
“I was nervous at first, but I quickly got used to it.” 😊

We want you to enjoy your kimono experience without any worries,
so you can make the most of your time exploring Kyoto until the very end of your day 🍁✨

Here, we will guide you step by step, so even first-time kimono wearers can feel at ease 🌸

Step 1|Gather your sleeves 👘

First, gently secure your sleeves so they don’t hang down.
You can tuck them into your obi or simply hold them in place.
▶ Tip: Taking a moment to arrange your sleeves will make everything much easier afterward ✨

Step 2|Lift the layers gradually 🌿

Kimono consists of several layers, so lift the fabric gently from the outer layer inward.
Avoid lifting everything at once—take it one layer at a time.
▶ Tip: Moving slowly helps prevent the kimono from becoming disheveled 🍃

Step 3|Hold the fabric to the sides ✋

Once lifted, hold the fabric firmly to each side.
Be mindful to keep it from touching the floor.
▶ Tip: Holding it slightly higher will give you more ease of movement 👘✨

Step 4|Move slowly and calmly 🌸

Take your time and move gently.
Having a little extra time will help you maintain the beauty of your kimono.
▶ Tip: Graceful movements are the key to keeping everything in place 🍀

Step 5|Sit slightly forward 🪑

Because the obi is tied at the back, sit a little forward rather than leaning fully back.
There’s no need to sit deeply.
▶ Tip: Being mindful not to press the obi will help keep its shape 👘

Step 6|Adjust gently afterward 👀

When you are finished, lightly adjust the hem and overall balance.
If you are unsure, our staff will be happy to assist you 😊
▶ Tip: A quick check in the mirror can give you peace of mind ✨

At first, it may feel unfamiliar,
but by taking each step slowly, you will naturally become comfortable 🌿

Before you know it, your initial concerns will turn into confidence—
and you’ll find yourself thinking, “That was easier than I expected” 😊✨

Feeling at ease allows you to fully enjoy your time,
without rushing, right up until the moment you return your kimono 🍁

Wearing a kimono offers a special experience unlike everyday life 👘
Your movements become more graceful,
and the scenery around you may feel even more beautiful 🌸

If you have any concerns, no matter how small, please feel free to ask us 💭
Our staff will always be happy to support you so you can enjoy your day with peace of mind 🤍

We sincerely hope your time in Kyoto becomes a wonderful and memorable experience ✨
Please relax and enjoy every moment in your kimono 🌿👘
