What’s good? How to choose a rental kimono store in Kyoto
When choosing a kimono rental store for the first time, you may find yourself wondering, “Where should I check?”
First, we will introduce some tips for choosing a kimono rental shop in Kyoto that you won’t regret.
A shop that knows cute, stylish, and popular designs
In the historical kimono culture, kimonos of various colors, patterns, and materials have been created one after another.
The range of kimono rental shops they carry varies greatly.
To find a kimono that fits your ideals, such as “elegant,” “cute,” and “cool,” we recommend checking the list of rental kimonos on the rental kimono store’s website.
If you want to choose a stylish design without compromise because you can’t usually wear it, you may want to consult a store that has professional stylists who are knowledgeable about traditional and trendy kimonos.
Waplus Kyoto has a kimono stylist!
Shops that match your preferences, such as “cheap” and “hair set included”
A kimono has a presence and is gorgeous on its own, but just wearing it doesn’t complete an outfit.
Only by choosing accessories such as obiage, bag, tabi, sandals, and styling your hair to match the atmosphere of the kimono will your total coordination be complete.
If you don’t have confidence in doing your own hair, or if you want to enjoy a stylish hair arrangement that you wouldn’t be able to do on your own, try choosing a kimono rental shop that offers plans that include hair styling.
Also, be sure to check the amount for each plan.
Currently, rental kimonos are enjoyed by many people from young people to adults, so there is a wide variety of price ranges available.
We recommend a shop where you can choose a plan depending on your budget, type of kimono, and whether or not you want your hair styled.

Shops close to Kyoto’s famous and tourist spots
It’s a good idea to choose a kimono store near popular spots in Kyoto so you can spend plenty of time walking around tourist spots wearing a stylish kimono!
“Even though I went to the trouble of getting dressed, I was tired because the cafes and shrines I wanted to go to were far away.”
“I was so absorbed in playing that it was time to return the kimono! I ran back to the rental kimono store.”
This will prevent you from making such mistakes.
Considering the cost performance of rental kimonos, it is safe to find a shop near the sightseeing spot you want to visit.
Advance preparations when renting a kimono in Kyoto
When using a kimono rental store for the first time, everyone gets nervous.
Preparing in advance will help you feel more relaxed on the day.
Check the flow of rental kimonos
If you understand the process from coming to the store to returning your kimono, you can take your time and have more time to spare.
The main flow of using a rental kimono store is as follows.
(*For “Waplus Kyoto”)
1.Reservation for store visit via web form or telephone
2. Visit the store on the scheduled date and time
3. Kimono/accessories selection, hair style (depending on plan)
4.Go out wearing a kimono
5. Return by the designated time (basically until 6pm)
If you are unsure of what to bring, please check with the rental kimono store immediately.
At many kimono rental shops, including Waplus Kyoto, you can come empty-handed.
Think about the sightseeing spots you want to visit in a rental kimono
In order to fully enjoy sightseeing in Kyoto and renting kimonos, we recommend making a rough sightseeing plan in advance of the day.
The trick is to check out “spots you absolutely want to go to” and “spots you want to go to if you have time” and organize them on Google Maps or a paper map. You will be able to enjoy sightseeing flexibly according to your mood, weather, and group members on the day.
In the next chapters, we will introduce recommended spots in Kyoto. Please check the details of the spots you are interested in.
